D-Day story funds A&P

Churchill, a dramatisation of the build-up to the D-Day landings of World War II, will be screened in Matakana on Monday June 19 to raise money for next year’s Warkworth A&P Lifestyle Show.

Directed by Bafta-winning Australian writer and film director Jonathan Teplitzky (Burning Man, The Railway Man), the story follows the 48 hours before the landings in 1944.

Fearful of repeating the invasion of Gallipoli in 1915, Churchill attempts to stop the Normandy invasion.

Churchill is played by Scottish actor Brian Cox, who recently starred in a BBC adaptation of War & Peace.

The script is by historian and author Alex von Tunzelmann, and cast members include Testament of Youth actress Miranda Richardson, who plays the wartime leader’s wife Clementine, and Spotlight actor John Slattery who takes on the role of Dwight Eisenhower.

Tickets are $25 and are available from Bayleys in Warkworth.
