Four confirmed cases in Wellsford

Four people have tested positive for Covid-19 in Wellsford.

All four had returned from overseas in the last few days.

There is no connection between any of the patients and they returned from different countries.

The four patients were screened at the screening pod in the medical centre carpark yesterday, with staff wearing full protective gear.

Wellsford Medical Centre’s Dr Tim Malloy says they did not enter the medical centre or contaminate anybody.

“There was no risk to the public as a result,” he says.

Dr Molloy said the positive tests underlined the seriousness of the COVID-19 crisis.

“This is the real deal. We need to take it very seriously.

“Everything the Ministry of Health is telling you, everything from the Prime Minister down, matters.

“All I can do is reiterate, ‘please take it seriously’.”

According to the Ministry of Health website the symptoms of COVID-19 are a cough, a high temperature (at least 38°C) and shortness of breath.

If you have these symptoms and have recently been overseas, or have been in close contact with someone confirmed with COVID-19, please telephone Healthline (for free) on 0800 358 5453 or your doctor.

These symptoms do not necessarily mean you have COVID-19. The symptoms are similar to other illnesses that are much more common, such as cold and flu.

Currently New Zealand is at Alert Level 3 and moves to Alert Level 4 at 11.59pm tonight.
