Search for bank robber continues

Police are analysing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses as the search for a man who robbed the BNZ in Warkworth yesterday continues.

The man, armed with a crowbar, took around $1000 cash from the bank at 3.37pm before fleeing on foot.

He was last seen at the bottom of Bertram Street where he ditched his gloves, cap, hoodie and pants. Police hope the discarded clothing will return forensic results to help identify him.

“He was wearing a separate set of clothes to try and make a description difficult so one would assume the robbery was planned,” a police spokesperson says.

The BNZ on Neville Street is operating this morning, but a security guard and the BNZ regional manager are both present. Security guards are also present at all other banks in Warkworth and Wellsford.

BNZ did not wish to comment on the robbery.

The offender is described by police as being in his late 20s or early 30s, small to medium build, and possibly Indian.

Police are asking anyone who may have information on the offender to contact detective Brad Marsh on 021 191 4246. Information can also be provided anonymously on 0800 555 111.
