Summer art show a smash for Mahurangi tennis club

Around $11,000 was raised for the Mahurangi East Tennis Club at the 25th annual Great Summer Art Exhibition and sale in Snells Beach, held from Saturday, December 30 through to January 1.

More than 250 paintings from 85 professional, intermediate and novice artists were on display at the Mahurangi East Community Centre, with 20 tables of small arts and crafts items for sale as well.

Around 2000 people visited the exhibition, which offers cash prizes totalling $3,200 to entrants.

The money raised will be used to fund junior coaching and continued maintenance of the courts at the tennis club.

The artworks were judged by renowned Queenstown artist Ivan Clarke, best known for his powerful landscapes and the Lonely Dog character and art collection.
