Supermarkets roll out restrictions again

People were queuing outside Warkworth supermarkets from 6am this morning following the announcement that Auckland is going into Level 3 lockdown.

At New World, there was a queue of socially distanced shoppers out to the car park entrance at 8.30am, as people rushed to stock up before the lockdown came into force at midday. At Countdown, the top doors were closed and shoppers were lining up down the ramp into the car park.

Both supermarkets stress that there is plenty of food and supplies for everyone and there is no need to panic-buy. Opening hours remain the same as usual, though staff warn that this could change “at any time”.
