Mahu Community Trading Post celebrated its second birthday with a bang – donating $34,000 to local community causes.

The grateful recipients were Warkworth Christian Foodlink ($10,000), Homebuilders Family Support Services ($10,000), Mahurangi Rugby Club ($10,000) and a Mahurangi College arts project for students with special needs ($4000).

Big giveaway brought the grand total donated by the Trading Post to local community causes to $210,250.

The Trading Post, located on Whitaker Road, Warkworth, is run by about 30 volunteers and sells secondhand clothing, furniture, tools, household appliances and bric-a-brac donated by the public.

Trading Post chair John Carr says when the venture was established, it was uncertain how well it would fair, but the dedication of volunteers and the willingness of people to donate has been incredible.

John says many people travelling down from Whangarei or up from Auckland make a special point of stopping in to check out the goods on offer.

The Trading Post is closed during Level 3, but normally opens on Wednesdays, from 7am to 4pm.
