Grand returns to town hall

Warkworth Music member Elizabeth Clark oversees delivery of the grand piano at the town hall last month.
A ‘mistake’ in the design of a storage room in the newly-reopened Warkworth Town Hall has cost Warkworth Music $3470.

When the restoration project started, the society says it was assured that the storage room for its grand piano would be large enough to accommodate the piano and the raised, mobile platform it sat on.

But they say that at some stage during construction, the size of the room shrank.

However, Council’s community places manager Kevin Marriott says this is not the case.

“There were no alterations or change of scope to the original architectural design plans agreed by the community,” Mr Marriott says.

Either way, the storage room is now only big enough for just the piano.

The society has had to purchase specially made, vulcanised, rubber castors from Europe to use the new room.
“It’s been quite a saga and certainly an expense we weren’t expecting,” society president Lisa Outwin says.
“We did mention the cost to Council in the hope of getting some assistance, but we didn’t have any joy in that department.”

The non-profit society is applying for grants to help pay for the equipment.
