Speakers relate Pacific adventures

Speakers at the September meeting of Warkworth Men’s REBUS club were Warwick and Joanna Bowden. They spoke of the 27 years they have been volunteers for Volunteer Service Abroad (VSA) and Christian Blind Mission.  They have worked all around the Pacific, including in the Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea and Samoa. Warwick and Joanne travelled extensively around the islands training local people to become trainers and advisors to assist children with diseases and other disabilities. Leprosy was the biggest fear among locals. They advised that leprosy was easy to cure, given the correct treatment. In 2008, the couple were each awarded the Queens’s Service Medal for their work. (contributed)
