Postie delivers first aid assistance

When Toni Webster’s husband Robin had a bad accident at their Army Bay home last week, while Toni was at work, things could have been a lot worse had it not been for the quick intervention of their postie.

Robin was doing DIY, when a grinder pad went into his hand causing severe tendon and bone damage.

The couple’s three children were at home and the two older ones, aged 13 and 10, called an ambulance, alerted Toni and helped compress the bleeding.

Postie Ian Barnett arrived on the scene to deliver the mail and immediately stopped his run, dressed the wound, kept an eye on Robin and waited until Toni arrived.

“Ian was the hero of the day – he even offered to drive Robin to Coastcare,” Toni says. A series of operations are needed to repair the damage to Robin’s hand.
