Three mature, protected pohutukawa trees on the Arkles Bay foreshore that were poisoned last year are to be removed.
Despite attempts to save them, a Council spokesperson says that the trees all reached an irreversible state of decline.
The council’s arboriculture team hopes to source large replacement trees in preparation for the upcoming planting season.
Those responsible for the vandalism were never identified by Council.
