Wellsford Police seek information

Police are searching for a man in his mid to late 20s who allegedly approached a nine-year-old Wellsford School pupil on her way home from school yesterday afternoon.

The girl’s mother said on Facebook that the man tried to entice the girl into his car. She ran home and was visibly shaken by the ordeal.

Wellsford Police Sergeant Geoff Medland says it's believed the girl was approached on Port Albert Road about 4pm.

He described the man as being aged between 20 and 30 with dark skin, wearing a red and blue striped top. He has a distinctive tattoo on his forearm, which resembles a werewolf or lion.

The vehicle he was driving was a greenish-blue colour. Patrols have been increased in the area and police are checking security camera footage.

Sgt Medland is asking the public to refrain from speculation on Facebook pages.

If anyone has any information, they should contact Wellsford Police directly or Orewa CIB, who are investigating the incident.
