Fire crews were called to a Snells Beach food shop this morning after a burst water pipe caused extensive flooding.
The Food Market owner Aliesha Stent arrived at her Mahurangi East Road premises to find water pouring through the ceiling and a strong “electrical burning” smell.
She said a pipe had burst in Curves gym above the store, flooding both businesses, though fortunately all her affected stock was in sealed tins and packages.
Aliesha said it would take several hours before she could clear up the mess and resume fulfilling online and email grocery orders for customers to collect.
“This is the last thing we need,” she said. “But we’ll get there. We’ve had to drag a couple of our shelves outside to dry them off. At least there wasn’t a fire as well.”
