Netball makes hard call

Last week, Netball NZ announced the cancellation of all this year’s secondary school regional and national tournaments such as AIMS and UNISS.

The organisation says the decision was made in conjunction with organisers of those events, due to the ongoing impacts of Covid-19, the lead-in time required for such events and the financial pressures created by lockdown.

All events will be rescheduled next year.

The cancellation is disappointing for students – in particular those who are in their last year of secondary school as the events are important opportunities for identifying players with future potential.

Netball NZ says it will work to ensure strong links to player identification systems within zones and opportunities continue to exist for aspiring players in the second half of 2020 and into early 2021.
