A bike rack requested for Gulf Harbour Reserve, by the ferry terminal, in February last year (HM May 3) has been added to Auckland Transport’s 2017/18 cycle parking programme, which is “currently under development”.
The focus of the programme is installing cycle racks at town centres, public transport and community facilities in the road reserve. Auckland Transport (AT) hopes to implement the programme this year.
However, all projects are ranked in order of priority and it will depend where the Gulf Harbour bike rack sits on that list, and on funding, as to when it may be installed.
In a report to the Hibiscus & Bays Local Board last month, AT advised that: “any candidate bike rack locations that do not secure a place on a funded programme will be reprioritised annually for installation based on available funding.”
Local board member Caitlin Watson says that AT staff are looking at a loop style rack, which she says may not cater for enough bikes. The rack will only be covered if funding allows. She says AT will meet the local board in the coming months to provide an indication of when the racks could be installed.
