Libraries – Daily news fix available online

One of my own favourite eResources available from Auckland Libraries is the free eMagazines collection. There are over 500 full colour magazines from New Zealand and overseas to browse through on our handy app. There are no limits on the number of magazines you can check-out and no check-out periods – you can keep them. I have even signed up to receive emails when my favourite magazines are available, such as Your Home & Garden, Cuisine, Listener, Metro, NZ Gardener, NZ Women’s Weekly and many more. Auckland Libraries provides access to a wide variety of topics including travel, technology, politics and cooking for a range of audiences (children, teens, men and women).

For your daily newspaper fix, or when you need to find something from another region or country, PressReader provides access to free regional, national and international newspapers and magazines. The newspapers and magazines come in full colour, full-page format with the ability to magnify if you need to. You can easily browse articles, advertisements and notices (even crossword or sudoku puzzles). New Zealand papers available include The New Zealand Herald, Herald on Sunday and The Dominion Post. For visitors from overseas or people now living in New Zealand wanting to keep up with news from their home country, the ever-expanding collection currently includes over 2400 newspapers from over 100 countries in 60 languages.

PressReader is available from home via www.aucklandlibraries.govt.nz using your library card number and PIN number, or you can use the PressReader app on Android and Apple devices to download newspapers in full.

Remember, any person living in Auckland is entitled to a free library membership. To get your library card, visit your local library with photo ID and a proof of your address and the staff will be happy to help you. Once you have your library card and PIN number, and have downloaded a few easy to use apps, you will be reading your favourite magazine or newspaper in no time.

Extra help getting started reading newspapers or magazines online is available from your local library, so give them a call to ‘Book a Librarian’ or call in for help anytime Monday to Friday 9am-5pm; Saturday 9am-1pm (3pm Warkworth) and Sunday 10am-3pm (Warkworth only).
