After facing down a tough draw against top North Harbour teams, Hibiscus Coast Cricket’s Club of Origin team lifted the Tim Simmons Cup for the first time last month.
Club of Origin is contested by six teams in the North Harbour region, predominantly Year 11 players.
The contest has been running for around 15 years and six years ago a winner’s cup was named after Hibiscus Coast Cricket Life Member Tim Simmons – something he says was to reward him for his services to North Harbour cricket.
Tim was there to see the final, played at North Shore Cricket Club in Devonport on March 26. He describes the win as “a historic occasion for the club” and says it was an honour to present the trophy. “It’s a fantastic result that has put the club on the map,” Tim says.
Coach Bevon Jacobs says the team had to beat a strong Takapuna team and last year’s winners, North Shore, to reach the final, which was played against East Coast Bays.
In the final Hibiscus Coast batted first and scored 130 in 35 overs, then bowled out East Coast Bays for 100.
