Mixed results for Coast football

The Coast, green and white strip, secured a win against Northland to move up the table.

The Hibiscus Coast Football Club’s number one teams both hosted big games at home in Stanmore Bay last month.

It was a good opportunity for local supporters although the weather meant most watched the action from the covered deck or even from cars parked facing the ground, expressing their approval by tooting their horns.

The club’s Women’s No. 1 team, which plays in the NRF Championship Senior Women’s league, played top of the table Papakura on Sunday, July 11. The local side lost, 2-6, and are currently positioned fourth on the table with Papakura keeping the top spot.

Meanwhile the Men’s No. 1 team took on Northland in a NRFL Men’s Division 2 game on Saturday, July 17.

The two teams were equal on the table, and the game reflected this. However, Hibiscus Coast captain Nate Canton scored the only goal of the match in the 24th minute, to put his team up to 7th place in the league.

In both leagues, there is still plenty of football still to play.
