Water win

An Hibiscus Coast waterpolo team is celebrating after taking a win in the A Grade division.

The Hibiscus Coast Waterpolo team’s U12 team, pictured, beat eight teams from around the country, to win the NZ Waterpolo Tournament (U12) in Tauranga at the end of last month.

The local team won 4-3 against Tauranga in the semi-final, then beat arch rivals North Harbour, 4-2, in the final.

It is the first time that a Hibiscus Coast A grade team has won this tournament.

Joshua Bayes, aged 11, scored 25 goals over 10 games and was named the team’s Most Valuable Player, while goalie Anouk O’Mailey-Cain saved 37 shots at goal over the 10 games and was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player for the Final.
