Challenge on for more volunteers

Manly Volunteer Fire Brigade is working with local gym Fitter Faster Stronger as both organisations seek to build membership.

Together, they are hosting a family day on July 23 at Fitter Faster Stronger on Whangaparaoa Road, 10am–2pm.

There will be some entertaining challenges as a team from the gym takes on the fire volunteers in tests of wits, skill and fitness. There will also be a children’s version of the Combat Challenge. Manly’s Fire Truck and First Response Van will be on site for children (and adults) to crawl through, over and around and it will be a great opportunity to find out more about what the volunteer fire service does. There will also be home fire safety advice and resources available along with hot food and prize draws.

The Manly brigade is one of the busiest single pump stations in NZ, with more than 500 callouts in the last 12 months. The service is completely run by volunteers and currently only has 11 who can respond to calls – they are looking for people who are interested in becoming a volunteer fire fighter, or assisting with attending medical callouts.
