CAB – Not enrolled yet? CAB can help

You only have five weeks left to enrol to vote in this year’s General Election on November 7. The last day you can enrol to vote is Sunday, October 25. 

Who can enrol to vote?: Enrolling is compulsory, but voting is not. You must enrol if you; 

• Are 18 years or older, and
• Are a New Zealand citizen or resident for electoral purposes, and 
• Have lived in New Zealand continuously for 12 months or more at some point in your life.

Enrolment options: Enrolling or updating your details is easy, with lots of options; 

Online: If you have one of three forms of ID listed below you can enrol or update your address online at vote.nz; NZ driver licence, NZ Passport, or RealMe verified identity.

If you don’t have any of the above IDs, or you prefer not to enrol or update your details online, you can also;

Freephone: Call the Electoral Commission on 0800 36 76 56 

Free text: Text your name and address to 3676 to get an enrolment form sent to you in the mail

Citizens Advice Bureau can help: CAB’s trained volunteers can also help you to; 

• Enrol to vote
• Check your enrolment status
• Update your details 
• Advise on your eligibility to enrol
• This year, CAB Hibiscus Coast Branch and seven other branches across the North Shore and Rodney District are delivering a community education and enrolment programme, in collaboration with the Electoral Commission. Look out for our pop-up enrolment desks over the next few weeks at The Coast Plaza, Silverdale Mall, Ōrewa Repair Café, and several retirement villages.

EasyVote card: Enrol by October 4 to get an EasyVote card, which makes voting faster and easier. Anyone who enrols after that date casts a special vote, which takes longer.

Moved house recently? You need to update your enrolment details every time you move house. Your residential address determines which electorate you are enrolled in.
