Dairy Flat wrestler Brahm Richards, 24, on the right in red, had to make the difficult decision not to go to the Olympics, despite winning selection last November (HM December 2, 2020).
He was asked to fight in the World Champs in South Africa in the lead up, but due to Covid disruptions and the cost of isolating when coming home, he turned it down.
However, last month he won the under 74 kilo division of the South Island Wrestling Championship, just a month after winning the North Island Champs.
He was awarded New Zealand’s most promising wrestler. Having represented NZ as the youngest ever wrestler in the last Commonwealth Games in Australia, Brahm now has his sights firmly on the next Commonwealth Games.
