Three members of the Hibiscus Coast Raiders premier team have been selected for the Auckland Vulcans Men’s squad, which will contest the NZ Rugby League Men’s North Island Championship, currently scheduled for next month in Rotorua.
The Men’s Vulcans are made up of standout talent from the Fox Championship grade, turning former rivals into teammates. Seven of the competition’s eight teams are represented.
Korey Craig, Kavana Te Kiri-Ryan and Samuel Waterworth are the three Raiders to make the squad. The team’s senior manager, Paul Davis, says their strength is their versatility. Korey can play anywhere in the backline. Sam and Kavaana can play centre, wing, fullback and back row. “Their ability to play anywhere makes them a coach’s dream for such a format,” Davis says.
Auckland Rugby League selected the team to offer representative opportunities to players who otherwise may have missed out on playing in a national competition.
The 22-strong group will be coached by former Kiwi Ferns mentor, and current Glenora coach, Tony Benson.
The North Island Championship is scheduled to take place on September 25-26, depending on Alert Levels at the time. The winner plays the South Island winner, two weeks later.
