Brendan Slee has a busy household in Stanmore Bay, including children and pets – he knows how hard it can be to keep carpets and upholstery clean.
After working as an upholsterer for 19 years, Brendan recently decided to focus on carpet cleaning, completing trade certification from the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration.
Armed with detailed knowledge of the different carpet fibres, which chemicals to use for which jobs and upholstery of all kinds, Brendan set up his business, Platinum Carpet Care, offering a service anywhere north of the harbour bridge.
He has a powerful weapon in the war against dirt and stains – a truck mounted steam cleaning machine – as well as the latest in portable cleaning equipment.
Proper cleaning not only gets rid of those stains and spills, but makes the home a healthier environment, keeps allergens down and can visually transform a room.
Brendan says it’s something everyone should have professionally done more often, as regular cleaning also maintains the carpet.
“Ideally carpets should be professionally cleaned every 1-2 years – more if you have pets,” he says. “Although you can’t see it, soiling can eventually damage and ruin your carpet.”
His services also extend to carpet stretching and repair, minor flood restoration and re-upholstery – and not just in the home. Brendan also looks after car and boat upholstery – something close to his heart as he is a keen fisher and has a boat at Gulf Harbour.
So far, having his own business has been a risk worth taking.
“It was time to be my own boss – I have been thinking about it for many years.”
