Market showcases Kensington creativity

Residents of Kensington Park in Ōrewa are busy making and baking for their first Show and Sell market, which is open to the public and will be held on Saturday, November 19.

Organisers Lyn Hodgkiss and Sandi Halling say there are a lot of creative people living in Kensington Park. Around 15 stalls, plus a large baking and preserves stand, will be at the market. Sewing, knitting, artworks and ceramics are included.

Lyn says the idea is to bring the public in, as well as raise money for Hibiscus Hospice. She will be selling wheat bags – including some placed inside soft toys for children. Her work as a massage therapist made her aware of the therapeutic value of a warm wheat bag and she’s been making them for around 20 years.

Sandi began making reversible patchwork aprons in 1988 – they are practical, but also designed to impress dinner party guests, she says.

The market is in the Kensington Park grounds, 1 Parkside Drive, Ōrewa (look for the tents), 2pm-5pm. Eftpos, online banking and cash accepted.
