
Two people have been arrested and charged in connection with the police investigation into the discovery of a woman in pyjamas in the water in Gulf Harbour earlier this year.
The discovery of human remains in the water off Gulf Harbour on Tuesday, March 12 shocked the community and since then police have been working to identify the victim and the perpetrator/s.
The identity of the woman is not yet known, however Acting Detective Inspector Simon Harrison says late on Sunday, June 30, police became aware of two people believed to be linked to the investigation attempting to leave the country.
They were interviewed by police, arrested and charged in relation to the matter.
A man and a woman, both aged 36, appeared in the North Shore District Court on Monday charged with interference with human remains.
There is interim name suppression in place for the pair.
Police also executed a search warrant at a residential address in Ōrewa and spoke to a number of people there in relation to this case. Police remain on the scene while the investigation continues.
Police are not ruling out further arrests or charges. They are continuing to appeal to the public for any information that could assist in identifying the victim.
