Settlement sealing done and dusted

Kaipara district elected members Cr Rachael Williams, Deputy Mayor Jonathan Larsen, Cr Mike Howard and Mayor Craig Jepson on freshly-sealed, dust-free Settlement Road. Line-marking is still to be done.

Hakaru residents living along Settlement Road, just off the Kaiwaka-Mangawhai junction, will no longer have dust to contend with following the end of sealing works.

The mainly metal road is one of several in Mangawhai that Kaipara District Council recognises as having a significant increase in traffic volumes from new subdivisions, which can cause major dust issues, as well as problems with general road safety.

Locals along Settlement have advocated for several years for council to improve the road, which serves as an alternative route to Kaiwaka.

Deputy Mayor Jonathan Larsen said that after hearing from the residents, elected members chose to prioritise the upgrade in the Long-Term 2024/27 Plan.

“As a founding member of the Hakaru Pony Club, I have fond memories of this area from my formative years, so it is really pleasing to see this seal extension project come to fruition,” he said. “This now provides a seamless, sealed access to the Hakaru Hall, the pony club and RSA in this increasingly vibrant community.”
