High tea hijinks for worthy cause

Mangawhai Library Hall blushed with a rosy hue on May 24, as 99 women dressed in vibrant pink attire – some daringly in their brassieres – attended the annual Pink Ribbon High Tea fundraiser.

Hosted by Mangawhai Lions and Zonta Mangawhai, and sponsored by a long list of local businesses, shops and services, the fun event included bubbles with a high tea, raffles, Best Dressed in Pink competitions and the new Decorate your Bra contest – with some women proudly modelling their creations.

The event raises much-needed cash for breast cancer support and research, and the final amount is estimated to eclipse 2024’s fundraiser, Lions secretary Mandy Hebben says.

Walkers & Talkers took out the Best Dressed Team title for actually wearing their decorated bras.

“It was such a fun event. We are just sorting final costs but it looks like we have raised at least double last year’s total, which was just under $3000,” she says. “Breast Cancer is something that touches all our lives at one time or another and the support from the community to assist us in raising these funds has been tremendous. Thank you to all our amazing sponsors and all the volunteers who put this wonderful day together.”
