Youth mentoring series published

Cox says his book offers short, user-friendly weekly messages (musings) of encouragement for those wanting proven tips and ideas to motivate young people. “I weave true stories into the pages to give credibility to the mentoring principles I share.”

At 71 years old, Ruakaka-based author Robin Cox is still on a mission to inspire and empower young people – and those guiding them.

The long-time educator and mentor has just released his 12th book, 52 Mentor Musings To Encourage Anyone Motivating Youth, aimed at mentors, educators, parents and anyone seeking to support youth development.

The book is the fourth and final instalment in a series Cox has written over the years to promote the spirit of youth mentoring.

“From my teaching, coaching, mentoring, and even parenting experiences, I know how important encouraging young people to achieve their potential is,” Cox said.

The new book offers short, weekly reflections and practical tips, interwoven with real-life stories, to motivate and guide youth in a positive and meaningful way.

With decades of experience behind him – including time as a school principal in southern Africa, a national under-19 sports coach, and a developer of mentoring programmes in New Zealand and Australia – Cox has personally mentored over a thousand adolescents and trained more than a thousand volunteer mentors. His work has taken him around the world, including workshops in India, Jamaica, and South Africa.

Cox describes the book as user-friendly and relevant, tackling issues like self-image, social media, resilience, values and effective communication.

“There is increasing anxiety among youth globally,” he said. “We need more adult role models who are willing to be authentic, non-judgmental cheerleaders for young people.”

He hopes readers walk away with three key messages: every young life matters, help youth find meaning and purpose, and never give up on them.

A cancer survivor, Cox says his final message is simple: “Never lose your sense of humor, and make mentoring a fun, encouraging experience.”

The book is available from the publishers, Amazon, or any other well-known online book sellers. Cox is offering a discount within New Zealand, while stocks last.
