Warkworth braved the mud and showers for the Mahurangi Winter Festival of Lights on June 28 with umbrellas, jackets and gumboots, but it was worth the effort.
The Parade of Lights was the highlight looping around Queen and Wharf Streets with trucks, cars and emergency vehicles festooned with lights, line dancers, kids’ groups and a marching band.
There were food trucks, live music and rides including a towering rainbow slide that shone in the dark like a lighthouse plus the foam gun on Baxter Street was definitely a favourite with small kids and big kids alike.
The main event was the light show later in the evening and people packed in to Wharf Street to enjoy the spectacle.
