Top comedy talent show to boost Homebuilders

Raising the roof for Homebuilders will be award-winning host Nick Rado and a line-up of top Kiwi comics.

There’s a chance to blow the winter blues away next month when One Mahurangi Business Association stages a Comedy Gala at Warkworth Town Hall on August 9.

As well as an all-star line-up of top Kiwi comics on stage, there will be a cash bar and food, with all proceeds going to local charity Homebuilders Family Services.

The gala evening will be hosted by award-winning comedian, writer and broadcaster Nick Rado, who has not only won Best NZ Comedy MC six times, he has also been voted best male comedian, appeared on countless Australian and NZ TV shows and opened for international comics such as Rob Brydon and Russell Howard.

Joining him on stage will be stand-up stars Justine Smith, Josh Thomson and Tarun Mohanbhai.

Comedy veteran Smith has been a regular panellist and was the first female head writer on 7 Days and has starred in many other TV shows, including The Panel, Taskmaster NZ and the Kiwi version of The Traitors, as well as appearing at and hosting countless comedy festivals.

Josh Thomson is an actor and comedian who is best known for his appearances on 7 Days, Taskmaster NZ, Have You Been Paying Attention and host on The Project. He has also played Satan in Wellington Paranormal and Martin Katavake for the Australian adaptation of The Office.

Mohanbhai has been making people laugh since he was at school and performing stand-up on stage since 1996, as well as working as a writer, actor and MC. His TV credits include performances on PULP Comedy, Last Laugh and the award-winning New Zealand drama Mercy Peak. He has also won Best Show at the New Zealand Comedy Festival and performed in South Africa, the UK, Australia, Malaysia, the US and Canada.

One Mahurangi manager Murray Chapman says the stellar line-up should ensure a night of non-stop laughs that will help a local cause that truly matters to many local whanau.

“We want to do something to help Homebuilders after their funding was cut last year,” he says. “This gala is comedy gold for a great cause.”

Raise the Roof for Homebuilders is on Saturday, August 9 – doors open at 6pm and the show starts at 7pm. Tickets cost $45, including finger food, and they can be bought from Mahurangi Matters, Harts Pharmacy, LJ Hooker Warkworth and Warkworth Information Centre.
