A framed picture of a steampunk cat was the clear winner of the people’s choice award at Warkworth Embroiders Guild’s biennial exhibition at Matakana Community Hall on July 25 and 26.
Susan Clarke’s copper-coloured Miss Kitty won the vote “by a country mile”, according to group president Robyn Vallom.
“Our weekend was a huge success, with so many attending and enjoying the calibre of the exhibits,” she said. “I told many that voting for the Viewer’s Choice would be the hardest thing they had to do that day and some just couldn’t decide.
Susan embroidered her winning feline after completing a course with Auckland designer Shirley Pygott, who specialises metallic thread embroidery.
As well as an extensive array of stitched and embroidered items, the weekend featured displays of work by Warkworth Quilters and the Kowhai Craft Spinners, Weavers & Felters group.
The winners of four raffles were: Embroidery – Carolyn Cooper, Warkworth; Pamper Yourself basket – Margaret Ellett, Auckland; Home Décor – Christine McClean, Sandspit; and Kitchen Goodies – Raewyn Parris, Warkworth.
