The Mangawhai Toastmasters Club will hold its first meeting at the Historic Village on September 16.
Club sponsor Margot Burton says Toastmasters International provides a superb leadership and communications programme, which is efficient, affordable and enjoyable.
“People get to know each other and are supported in a safe learning environment where everyone is empowered in the art of speaking, listening and thinking,” she says.
“The programme can fit anyone, as each member chooses their project based on what they want to learn.”
Originally from St Heliers, Burton caught the “learning and leading bug” 20 years ago after taking on various leadership positions at Flying Start Toastmasters, a St Luke’s club that she still attends.
“I started quite timidly, but now I’m one of those people who needs the fix of making myself do what it takes to be better and better.
“As club members change and become more skilled by practising their learning path programme, we witness many special moments. All clubs have their own culture and I really look forward to watching how this coastal village community club will develop.”
Mangawhai Toastmasters Club fortnightly meetings start on Tuesday, September 16, in the Historic Village’s old church, 7pm-8.30pm.
