
Ōrewa College Year 7 student Summer Torbet has claimed world honours at the Open Skiff World Championships in Japan, returning home with two major results.
After five days and 15 competitive races in Nishinomiya, Summer was crowned U13 Female World Champion and also secured bronze in the mixed fleet, a standout performance on the international stage.
She finished in the top five in nine races and claimed two wins, with consistency and dedication proving key. Her regular evening training sessions, which saw her out on the water most evenings after school, has paid off.
Last year, Summer placed fourth in the female division and 11th overall at her first World Championships in Italy.
