New Zealand First says the public meeting is being organised and funded by NZ First, as part of a nationwide tour, independent of Unify NZ.
New Zealand First deputy leader MP Shane Jones will be in Warkworth for a public meeting on Sunday, August 31.
Jones, who is Minister for Oceans and Fisheries, Regional Development and Resources, as well as Associate Minister of Finance and for Energy, says he will discuss NZ First’s key coalition achievements and some of the issues New Zealanders are bringing to the party’s attention.
Joining Jones on the Warkworth Town Hall stage will be local NZ First list MP Jenny Marcroft.
The meeting, which starts at 2pm, is one of a series of roadshow events being held by NZ First MPs around the country.
The event is being organised by Unify NZ, a local lobby group that says it is “intent on ensuring the return of civil rights, liberties and freedoms lost” during covid and the last Labour government.
Meeting organiser Jeanette Bremner says since its town hall meetings three years ago, Unify NZ has continued to engage “quietly but persistently” with NZ First on a range of key issues.
“Our ongoing discussions with NZ First have covered presenting further evidence and concerns around the Covid-19 response, advocating for the delay of proposed gene technology legislation, defending New Zealand’s sovereignty from WHO, UN and Paris Agreement overreach, and encouraging NZ First to support mainstream media reform and defunding,” she says.
Bremner says she is thrilled that Jones accepted Unify NZ’s invitation to speak in Warkworth.
“His sharp wit and candid delivery are sure to bring both insight and a bit of humour in these challenging times,” she says.
