Big screen blockbusters for the school break

Matakana Cinemas is rolling out a jam-packed programme for the school holidays that’s sure to keep kids (and their parents) entertained throughout the Term 3 break, from September 20 to October 5.

It all kicks off with two new movies –The Bad Guys 2 and Kangaroo, both coming out on September 18, followed by Gabby’s Dollhouse and Dora: Magic Mermaid Adventure on September 20.

Rounding out the new releases is Sketch, which hits the big screen on September 22.

Matakana Cinemas’ Aimee Hewett says this year’s line-up of kids flicks is one of their strongest yet and offers plenty of choices for outings.

“We’re quite fortunate that we’ve got some really solid movies coming out this month,” she says.

Entry for everyone into Dora is just $15, the price of a kid’s ticket.

“It’s a way of encouraging the whole family to come along,” Hewett says.

Matakana Cinemas is also giving away double passes to each of the children’s films.

“We’re running a competition through our email newsletter on September 21 and 22. Just create or log into your account via our website and check that you’re set to receive newsletters. If you’re signed up, you’ll automatically go in the draw,” Hewett says.

For families looking to make the holidays even more memorable, Matakana Cinemas also offers private cinema hires plus birthday party packages.

“You can hire out the whole cinema, bring in a cake from Charlies Gelato and add bundles of snacks like popcorn, drinks and ice cream.”

Given its snug size, the boutique 34-seat Roxy Cinema is always a popular option for private sessions
It’s not just for birthdays or the school holidays either – whether you’re a school group, community club or corporate, all are welcome to hire a cinema.

Plus, anyone who books in September goes into the draw to win one of 10 Matakana Cinemas vouchers, each worth $100.

Hewett adds: “I’m just really excited to see everybody coming in over the school holiday period and enjoying some of the awesome films we’ve got coming up.”

But it’s not just about the kids.

On September 18, the romantic fantasy film A Big Bold Beautiful Journey starring Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell comes out providing something for older teens and adults.

And on September 19, Matakana Cinemas welcomes legendary New Zealand filmmaker Gaylene Preston for a Q&A screening of Grace: A Prayer for Peace.

Finally in September is Member-Tember for green membership customers with an extra $1 off  all movie tickets to standard releases throughout month plus access to advanced screenings of the following movies: The Roses, Prime Minister and A Big Bold Beautiful Journey.

Plus, when you sign up to the membership in the month of September, you automatically enter the draw for a private screening in their Roxy theatre (current active members are automatically in the draw).
