Rocket Lab taking a stand

Just months after the appearance of a large rocket-shaped object at the rear of industrial premises between Woodcocks Road and Glenmore Drive in Warkworth, an ever bigger structure has now taken its place.

The huge metal framework stands more than 30 metres tall and dominates the skyline, sitting in its own fenced compound behind Rocket Lab’s Warkworth facility.

The senior communications manager for the US space company, Murielle Baker, said that the new landmark was “a test stand for hardware” built at the former Core Composites plant, implying that the frame could well be filled with some pretty hefty kit before too long.

She was quick to reassure locals that nothing more dramatic than that could be expected, however.

“We completely understand how it might look like a launch pad but rest assured, it is not a launch site!” she said.
