Mangawhai Bridge Club (MBC) held its second annual tournament recently, drawing 72 players from 11 regional clubs across Northland and Auckland.
The competition was officially opened by MBC president Sandra Hollis, who extended a warm welcome to all participants, including tournament director Mary Chamberlain, from Mt Albert, who ran the event assisted by MBC director Sue Belin.
Bridge offers a unique blend of mental challenge and social and community connection, and players enjoyed the opportunity to test their skills and strategies, as well as reconnect with fellow bridge enthusiasts in a lively and welcoming atmosphere.
The club was established with support from the Mangawhai Community Op Shop and has grown in a few years from a dozen players to nearly 60, and is now an affiliated member of NZ Bridge. It welcomes new members of all levels.
The club meets at the Senior Citizens Hall, Fagan Place, Mangawhai Heads.
Duplicate Bridge: Thursdays 6.50-10.15pm; Improvers sessions: Tuesdays 1pm-4pm $3 table fee, no partner required, and ideal for returning players looking to refresh their skills. Beginners classes are run annually.
