The Mahurangi East Tennis Club’s annual fundraiser, The Great Summer Art Exhibition, is back for its 32nd year – and this time, will be held in the newly renovated Snells Beach Community Hall.
The event is organised entirely by volunteers and club president Maureen Bernie says they are very grateful for the ongoing support the exhibition receives from club members and the community.
“All artworks are for sale, with 20 per cent of proceeds and all entry fees going to community tennis initiatives, such as the Love Tennis free family event, member barbecues and junior coaching sponsorship,” she says.
“As well as maintenance and upgrading the club facilities, for example, balls, nets and windbreaks.”
The exhibition officially opens with Preview Night on Tuesday, December 30, at 7pm.
Tickets cost $20 at the door and include refreshments, priority viewing of the exhibition, the opportunity to purchase artworks and attending the prizegiving ceremony.
The main exhibition will run from Wednesday, December 31 to Friday, January 2, open 10am to 4pm daily, with admission by donation.
This year’s show features four art categories: Established, Intermediate, Emerging, and Students (from Mahurangi College).
Photography is accepted in all categories.
There are two judges’ encouragement awards, a people’s choice award and multiple prizes in each category, all sponsored by local businesses. The total prize pool has a value of $4250.
“Visitors will get to enter their people’s choice vote and purchase a raffle ticket. The Exhibition Cafe will have table service in a space where visitors can take a break between viewing the artworks and visiting the sales tables,” Bernie says.
“We anticipate as many as 30 cash and carry tables with a number of new artists already signed up.”
Tables will offer excellent quality work from established artists, with a diverse range of items for sale, everything from glass, pottery, paintings and ceramics to jewellery, tableware, and leather wallets, she says.
Bernie adds, “Artist registrations are proceeding well and the club has invested in updating our display stands to improve presentation of the artworks.”
Artist registration closes Friday, December 12. Full details at www.mahutennis.co.nz/art-expo
