Monday artists set up for annual exhibition

Beyond the newly revamped Wood Street shopping precinct, and tucked just behind the local medical centre, the Mangawhai Senior Citizens Hall on Fagan Place is set to burst into colour as the Monday Morning Art Group prepares for its annual Art Exhibition.

The two-day showcase will be held on Friday and Saturday, January 2 and 3, with doors open from 10am to 4pm and free entry. Organisers say the hall will once again transform into a vibrant gallery space, filled wall-to-wall with the creativity of local artists.

Bright watercolours, bold acrylics, delicate pastels and imaginative mixed-media pieces will all be on display, along with a selection of handmade cards. Every artwork is for sale, offering visitors the chance to take home a unique piece of Mangawhai’s artistic spirit.

The Monday Morning Art Group meets weekly in the same hall, fostering a warm, supportive environment for both emerging and experienced artists.

Group member Shirley Emerson says tuition is available for those who want it, inspiration is shared generously, and the occasional outing adds to the group’s friendly, community-minded atmosphere. New members are always welcome.

As part of the exhibition, visitors can enter a draw for a door prize and cast a vote in the popular People’s Choice competition, an annual favourite that celebrates the artwork most loved by the community.

“The exhibition invites locals, holidaymakers and curious passers-by to step inside, slow down, and enjoy a colourful snapshot of Mangawhai’s creative heart,” Shirley says.
