Love Grace Handbag Appeal collections open

The Love Grace Handbag Appeal is currently underway, asking for donations (in handbags) of essential items until March 8.

The handbags are donated to women in need. Arising from the murder of young British traveller Grace Millane, the Love Grace Handbag Appeal aims to empower victims of domestic abuse. Essential items include shampoo, conditioner, soap, deodorant, toothbrush and toothpaste along with other feminine products, but no open or damaged products, money, food, sharp items, clothing, candles/ lighters, medication or alcohol.

Every donated handbag helps bring care and dignity to women in need throughout Aotearoa. Hestia Rodney Women’s Refuge says it is grateful to have Detective Scott Beard supporting the appeal again this year “But while our local area receives an amazing response, many of our sister refuges up north – places like Kaitaia, Kaikohe, and Kaeo – receive very few donations”.

There are 40 women’s refuges across New Zealand, and some struggle to get the support they need. If you have an empty truck or van heading north, or can help get handbags to these communities, they would love to hear from you. Your support can make a real difference for women and whānau who might otherwise miss out. More info: Claudia@hestia.org.nz or call 021 660 362.
