The Matakana Village Farmers Market will take on a distinctly orange hue on March 21 when pumpkin growers from around the area proudly display their garden glories.

The annual Grand Pumpkin Growing Contest will be judged from 9.30am onwards, followed by prizegiving.

Prizes will be awarded for biggest pumpkin, tiniest pumpkin, ugliest pumpkin, prettiest pumpkin, celebrity lookalike, most spectacular shape, rookie of the year and most creative display.

There will also be prizes for the best pumpkin pie and most creative pumpkin food item.

The contest is again supporting the Wildly Curious Outdoor Learning Centre, helping tamariki explore beaches, forests and wetlands. Spectators welcome.
