The Puhoi Sports Club is calling on the community to give it a lift.
It wants to make its facilities more accessible so is fundraising to install a lift, which will assist wheelchair users, older residents and anyone who finds stairs a challenge.
Organisers say the project is about more than convenience – it’s about creating an inclusive space where everyone can feel welcome.
Just over $60,000 has already been raised through local fundraising and Lotteries Community Funding, but a further $30,000 is needed.
With this in mind, Paddle for a Purpose will be held on April 11 and 12.
Hosted by Puhoi Kayaks, the event invites participants to enjoy a scenic paddle along the historic Puhoi River.
Paddlers who reserve their kayak online with the note ‘LIFT’ in the comments will receive a 10 per cent discount when they pay on the day. Puhoi Kayaks will then donate half of the proceeds from these bookings to the lift project.
