Minimum wage rises

Some workers will see a modest boost to their pay packets from April 1, as increases to minimum wage rates take effect.

The adult minimum wage will rise from $23.50 to $23.95 an hour, while the starting-out and training wage will increase from $18.80 to $19.16 an hour.

All figures are before tax and any lawful deductions such as PAYE, student loan repayments or child support.

Businesses are being urged to prepare for the changes by reviewing payroll systems to ensure they are updated in time.

Employers are also advised to reassess budgets and cashflow, as the increase may affect related costs such as ACC levies, KiwiSaver contributions and holiday pay.
