Time to launch designs into orbit

The competition seeks to inspire children’s curiosity about space and connect them with science.

Students in Years 1 to 8 are invited to take part in a competition to design a mission patch to mark the New Zealand Space Agency’s 10-year milestone. Mission patches are small circular designs commonly seen on space mission uniforms, symbolising the purpose and identity of each mission. Entries can be created by hand or digitally, and designs should be big, bold and original. Use of generative AI tools is not permitted.

One winning design will be selected from each of the three year-group categories (Years 1-3, Years 4-6 and Years 7&8), with each winner receiving a certificate of recognition.

Then an overall winning design will be chosen to become an official Space Agency patch. The designer will receive a Space Agency jacket featuring the winning patch and a school visit from a representative of the agency.

The competition closes on Friday June 5.
