A night of live music in Warkworth Town Hall raised $4600 for the Fight The Tip campaign last month.
The evening’s entertainment featured a diverse lineup of musicians and bands, and attracted a good turnout of supporters.
One of the organisers Maury Purdy said the variety of music on the programme was a big hit, from The Harry Lyon Trio playing some of Hello Sailors big songs to Brian Jones and “Josh” performing songs made famous by The Exponents.
“Andrew McLennan, of Coconut Rough, also went down well with the crowd,” he said. “But some of the biggest highlights came from the many talented local bands and singers who took to the stage throughout the event.”
The festival showcased around 40 musicians and singers, creating a lively atmosphere both on and off the stage as performers mingled with audience members between sets.
Musical director Clyde Tukaiora Connell, who coordinated the evening, performed with at least three bands and supplied much of the equipment needed for the event.
The evening also featured a video and lighting show, presented by Bruce and Leon Fergusson of The Dark Room, while nourishment was provided by JJ’s food truck.
Strong backing from sponsors also contributed to the event’s success, including Tahi Bar and Hotshots Poster. The Fight The Tip Committee was recognised for its efforts, particularly committee members working at the front door selling festival merchandise and donating their time to the cause.
Despite the long day, organisers said the fundraiser was a resounding success and thanked everyone involved for helping make the event possible.
