Man critically injured in hunting incident Kawau Island

A man has been charged following a hunting incident on Kawau Island that left another man critically injured.

Police said emergency services responded on the morning of Thursday, August 20, at 12.50 am, to reports that a person had been injured after a firearm was discharged in the bush near Schoolhouse Bay Road. 

One person was transported to hospital in a critical condition. Police reported that a 44-year-old man has been charged with careless use of a firearm and will appear in North Shore District Court on Friday. 

It is understood Auckland Council suspended hunting operations for its Kawau Island pest eradication programme after the shooting. WorkSafe has been advised of the incident.
