Public transport connections between Milldale, Millwater and Silverdale could improve under plans to extend Auckland Transport’s 989 bus route.
Auckland Transport (AT) is consulting residents on two options for the extended route, including operating hours and the general location of new bus stops. More detailed consultation on individual bus stops and pedestrian crossings will follow once the route is confirmed.
The route currently runs between Milldale and Hibiscus Coast Station every 30 minutes from 6am to 7.30pm, seven days a week. AT is proposing to extend it through more of Milldale and Millwater and improve connections with Silverdale, including Silverdale Mall and Highgate Business Park.
AT says the extended route is needed as the area grows and would be particularly useful for students and other residents wanting to travel directly between the areas without having to change buses at Hibiscus Coast Station.
Two route options are being considered. Option A would require new bus stops and minor roadworks around Bonair Crescent and Croix Greens, while Option B would require new stops and pedestrian crossings along Wainui Road.
Consultation opens Monday, August 31, and closes Sunday, September 27. A drop-in session will be held at Silverdale Community Trust, 41A Millwater Parkway, Silverdale on Saturday, September 5, from 10.30am to noon and 1.30pm to 3pm.
AT expects to confirm the bus stop locations in early 2027.
