Applications are open for Auckland Council’s 2026 Regional Historic Heritage Grant Programme, with up to $50,000 available to help preserve sites of regional significance.
The grants are available to individuals, iwi and Māori groups, community organisations and trusts undertaking projects to protect and conserve Auckland’s historic heritage places.
Community Committee chair Julie Fairey said the funding helped preserve the region’s rich history for future generations.
“Auckland’s historic heritage should be cherished and be visible for residents and visitors to get a glimpse into the region’s colourful and diverse past,” she said.
“These grants make a real contribution to help preserve, enhance and celebrate heritage taonga in Tāmaki Makaurau.”
Funding priorities include the conservation of regionally significant heritage places, projects protecting at-risk heritage sites, including those affected by climate change, and initiatives supporting the kaitiakitanga of Māori cultural heritage places.
Applications close on September 14.
The council will also host an online grant workshop on August 5 from 12.30pm to 1.30pm for prospective applicants. Those wishing to attend can RSVP by emailing grants@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz.
