Decisions on grant funding were thrashed out by members of the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board in a workshop and agreed to at its May 28 meeting.
This was the second funding round for the local grants and multiboard grants (funded across more than one local board). Facilities grants (round one), to assist with the costs of planning or developing a sports, arts or community facility, were also allocated.
A total of $294,450 was available but the amount applied for was almost $625,000. A big chunk of that was facilities grant applications, which totalled $302,285.
Local recipients included:
Local grants: IMAgEN8, $1500 towards running nature photography workshops and exhibition; Living Theatre Charitable Trust, $1000 towards the GLŌrewa pilot showcase in September; Friends of Okura Bush, $5000 towards community liaison worker and costs of weed control programme; Te Herenga Waka o Ōrewa marae, $10,000 towards removal of boat from Weiti River; Youth in Transition Charitable Trust, $9000 towards therapists and youth mentors; YMCA North, $5000 towards inflatable rescue boat for use at Shakespear Lodge; Whangaparāoa Community Patrol, $9151 towards camera and installation; Donut Economics Advocates NZ, $651 towards costs of Ōrewa Repair Café; One Nudge, $5245 towards resources and catering for programmes in Ōrewa; Hibiscus Coast Grandparents Parenting Grandchildren, $5000 towards uniforms and fuel vouchers; Hibiscus Coast Softball Club, $4000 towards trophies, storage, software and uniforms; Coast Youth Community Trust, $2516 for activity fees, food and goodie bags; Silverdale Community Trust, $2905 for workshop facilitator and printing costs.
Facilities grants: Centrestage Theatre, $30,000 for auditorium seat replacement; Ōrewa Surf Lifesaving, $20,000 for project management and architectural costs for surf club; Ōrewa Sea Scouts, $8700 for painting work; Whangaparāoa Community Trust, $6000 for kitchen fittings, flooring, plumbing, paint and wall paneling; Estuary Arts Centre, $2500 for flood assessment; Silverdale Squash Club, $4226, for heat pump; HBC Youth Centre, $20,000 towards repairs and improvements at the centre; Hibiscus Coast Association Football Club, $2000 towards shipping container for storage.
