A Millwater home transformed through a carefully designed renovation has been recognised at the Auckland regional ADNZ Resene Architectural Design Awards.
The awards, held this month, recognised 23 projects across the Auckland region, with 15 designers receiving awards.
Among them was Mulu Design Workshop designer Shirong Zhang, for the Arched House project in Millwater.
The project transformed a typical developer-built home from the early 2010s into a more personalised and connected living space.
The renovation included an interior redesign, modest extension and new swimming pool, with a sculpted arched opening used to redefine the relationship between different parts of the house.
The project’s description said softened interior corners and carefully aligned openings were also introduced to improve the flow of the home, while a restrained palette helped strengthen the connection between indoor and outdoor spaces and make better use of natural light.
Architectural Designers NZ (ADNZ) chief executive Keryn Davis says this year’s Auckland entries demonstrated strong creativity and problem-solving.
“There were many projects that pushed the limits, with members finding solutions to everyday lifestyle and site limitations,” Davis says.
